What we do
Hampshire Biodiversity Information Centre (HBIC) provides an independent and impartial data service
Data maintained by HBIC is comprehensive and covers designated sites, habitats and species.
- Management of data
-
HBIC carries out habitat surveys and brings together copies of data from a number of key species recording groups.
Data maintained by HBIC supports the work of Hampshire County Council and HBIC’s partner organisations. It also informs environmental assessment, land management and research by developers, utilities, landowners, students, local groups and the public.
- SINCs
-
HBIC also manages the Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINCs) system in Hampshire on behalf of the local planning authorities. This is a local designation which highlights the importance of a site for wildlife within the context of planning and land management in Hampshire.
- Standards and services
-
HBIC is an accredited member of the Association of Local Environmental Records Centres (ALERC). ALERC represents the interests of Local Environmental Records Centres in the UK. It promotes standards and services in biodiversity data collation and provision.
