Hampshire Hive Blog: September 2021

Oct 26 2021

Summer offered lots of opportunities for our Hive to get together and have some fun. The highlight was our Waterlooville Hive Fun Day, on the 18 August 2021. It was held at a local village hall, which we had booked two months in advance to allow us lots of planning time. Fortunately, we were allowed to bring all the things up the previous evening; I only have a small car and I would never have managed to get it all in on the day. Two colleagues from other Hives, as well as two of our family members and our Placement Stability Worker volunteered their services so that was a big help. The day was a real team effort with everyone pulling together to put smiles on other people faces.

The day began with the Hive members coming together for a catch up. The weather was warm but not sunny which was perfect for what we had planned for the day. At 1:00pm our mini sports day began with a sack race, followed by a skip and jump race and ended with a tug-of-war. All the children and young people had smiles on their faces and were laughing as they fell over. The adults joined the fun with a race that involved running with a cone on their heads. The children enjoyed watching this and found it very funny.

Following the mini sports day, the children went into the hall to make a sandwich using healthy ingredients, such as salad and chicken. They put together a tasty pasta meal using healthy colourful ingredients and mixed a delicious smoothie, using fruit and natural yoghurt. They ended their meal by making a treat Rice Krispies or corn flake cake. They enjoyed making their own meal and being home-made made it taste even better.

All the children were given a raffle ticket for being kind and taking turns and won a prize. The day was ended with the children being awarded a certificate for trying new things and having fun. All the Hive members attended this event which made all the hard work worth it especially when you see so many people enjoy themselves.
