Fostering Hampshire Children are proud to be the community sponsor for an exciting new art trail at Furzey Gardens.
The trail will see 25 four-foot, artist-decorated, fairy doors displayed in the gardens to thrill visitors of all ages from 27 May to 3 September.
Last month, our foster families had the opportunity to join an artist at Furzey Gardens to design Fostering Hampshire Children’s very own door for the trail. The children were able to explore their creativity and express themselves.
Taking on the children’s ideas, the artist, Laura Alp, was able to weave in the themes of kindness, communities and supporting children to grow. All of which reflect Fostering Hampshire Children’s ongoing Open Your Door campaign to recruit more foster households across the county.
Laura Alp, local artist, said, “working with Fostering Hampshire Children was wonderful and so very inspiring. The children and their carers were full of a range of imaginative ideas. The children were excited, friendly, helpful, and great to work with and the carers were equally brilliant. The children and their carers made my job a dream!”
During the workshop, there were lots of incredible ideas. For example, the lion was designed with the sun in mind being strong and bringing light to the fairy garden, whereas the rainbow is to symbolise hope and new beginnings. The foster families also incorporated a beehive to represent the fantastic efforts of the expanding Hampshire Hives.
Through the trail, Fostering Hampshire Children hope to raise awareness of fostering, share the inspirational artwork of our young people, and galvanise the residents of Hampshire to consider becoming fosters carers who can offer a home to children in care.
Fostering Hampshire Children are proud to be the community sponsor for the new art trail. Not only is Furzey Gardens a haven of peace and tranquillity, but it is also run as a social enterprise to support people with learning disabilities.
Jay Powell, Furzey Gardens Director, said: ‘Furzey Gardens is a really magical place, so we’re delighted that our fairy door project adds another creative dimension for our visitors to enjoy. We’re very grateful to Fostering Hampshire Children for their support and so proud of everyone who has brought this project to life. We can’t wait to see people come and enjoy it through the summer and give them an open window into the lives of people with a learning disability in a completely different way.’
Fostering Hampshire Children hopes to shine a light on the children in care and inspire the residents of Hampshire to #OpenYourDoor and become foster carers.
