Losing weight
As we age our body’s metabolism slows down and we store more body fat. Being overweight increases your chances of developing long term conditions such as type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke and musculoskeletal problems such as osteoarthritis. Weight gain can also have a negative impact on mental wellbeing, self-esteem and motivation.
From the age of 50 years, we are more likely to develop a long-term condition but there are things we can do to delay or prevent these. Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight will help you manage any existing long-term conditions and will help reduce the risk of further ill health.
