Open expeditions

At Learning Outdoors, we offer a range of flexible packages to support young people in completing the expedition section of their Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Award — from initial training through to final assessment. Whether you're looking for individual components or a combined package, we’ve got you covered.

Our expeditions are open to participants both within and outside of Hampshire. They’re ideal for those who are unable to complete their expedition through a school or DofE Centre. To take part, you must be enrolled on the relevant level of the DofE Award.

Expertly Delivered Expeditions

All expeditions are organised and delivered by the experienced Learning Outdoors team. Our staff are DBS-checked and hold the necessary walking and first aid qualifications, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all participants.

We supply all essential group kit, including:

  • Tents
  • Stoves
  • Gas
  • Maps
  • Compasses

Participants will need to bring their own personal kit. A full kit list will be provided in advance to help with preparation.

Residential experience

These are residential packages, and we’ll send you all the key information: such as your itinerary and kit list, six weeks before your expedition. We’ll also host a virtual meeting to walk you through the experience and answer any questions.

Minimum numbers apply

Expeditions run based on minimum participant numbers. If these aren’t met, we’ll offer an alternative date or provide a full refund.
