What to take with you
You don’t need the deceased’s proof of ID to register their death. However, we’ll need the following information to complete the death registration:
- their date and place of death
- their full name at the time of death
- any names previously used, e.g. maiden name
- their date and place of birth
- their last address
- their occupation
- marital status
- the full name, date of birth and occupation of a surviving or late spouse or civil partner
- whether they were getting a State Pension or any other benefits
It will be helpful if you could bring any of the following documents to your appointment to support the information being taken. If you are unable to provide these documents it will not prevent the appointment being made or the registration taking place.
- the deceased's birth certificate
- their Council Tax bill
- their driving licence
- their marriage or civil partnership certificate
- their NHS medical card
- their passport
- proof of address for them (e.g. utility bill)
