Ceremonies

The ceremony for converting a civil partnership into a marriage can look very similar to a wedding with an exchange of promises and rings. Your friends and family can attend but you don’t need to have witnesses.

During the conversion, you and your partner will sign a ‘conversion into marriage’ declaration. The deputy superintendent registrar will also be present and will sign the declaration too.

You can include up to four parents each on the declaration (including biological, step or adoptive parents).
