When to give notice

Notice of marriage or civil partnership must be given no later than 4 weeks before, and no more than 12 months prior to your ceremony. We normally advise that you have your appointment about four months ahead of your ceremony.

If either you or your partner is not a British or Irish national, doesn’t have Indefinite Leave to Remain, pre-settled or settled status, or a marriage or civil partnership visa then your case will be referred to the Home Office Referral Scheme under the Immigration Act 2014, so this minimum period may be extended.

The process of giving notice might be different for Anglican weddings - check with the wedding venue.
