Educating children on local farming

Holly and Lester are graziers of Fair Oak County Farms Estate and are passionate about bringing local farm produce to the community.

They were recently mentioned in by LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) Education in their newsletter for holding Early years foundation stage (EYFS) curriculum-geared educational visits and also their first community event, free for visitors, local producers and small businesses. These included a micro dairy as well as bee keepers’ local produce and crafts.

At the event Holly and Lester set up an educational corner with information and activities as well as a small arena in the centre where they provided a talk about their animals and judged a scarecrow building competition. They also ran practical hands-on events such as sheep feeding and guinea and rabbit handling.

We really hope to have a farm one day where we can have schools come and visit us to share all of this!
