Archaeology in Hampshire

It is important that we care for and protect this heritage

The heritage of Hampshire includes archaeological sites, historic buildings, historic landscapes and townscapes, parks, gardens and battlefields. It is part of what makes Hampshire an attractive place to live, work and visit.

Archaeological sites are under constant threat from development and farming. We advise planners how to protect archaeological remains, and how to record sites that cannot be preserved. We base the advice we give on the information held in the Historic Environment Record (HER).
