Infectious diseases and health protection

Introduction

We help protect people in Hampshire from infectious diseases, environmental health threats and health-related emergencies.

Partnerships

We work with the NHS and other partners to prepare for and respond to health threats. We also promote uptake of life-saving interventions such as screening and vaccination programmes. The Director of Public Health leads a Health Protection Board. The board addresses key health protection issues and reducing inequalities for Hampshire residents.

The Emergency planning pages show how Public Health works with other agencies to deal with emergencies.

Reporting

If you are a registered medical practitioner and wish to report a disease or public health hazard, contact the UKHSA Health Protection team. More information is available on GOV.UK: Notifiable diseases and how to report them

If you run a setting like a care home or nursery and you're worried about an infectious disease or another public health risk, contact your local health protection team. Find your local health protection team in England

If you want to report an environmental health issue:

  • suspected food poisoning or a hygiene issue with a food outlet
  • if you have an issue with your rented housing
  • problems with neighbours: nuisance noise, smoke or light, overhanging trees and shrubs, rubbish
  • air quality (pollution);

contact your local district or borough council.

If you are a member of the public and wish to report an emergency situation, visit the Emergency situations page.
