Domestic abuse

Domestic abuse can affect anyone. If you are concerned or worried about your own situation or someone close to you, please remember that you are not alone and there is support available.

What is domestic abuse?

It does not always involve physical violence. Domestic abuse is any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive, threatening, degrading and/or violent behaviour, including sexual abuse by anyone ‘personally connected’ to the individual. Controlling behaviour can include, but is not limited to, money and finances, technology, and socialising.

Help is also available for people who may recognise that they are using abusive behaviour in their own relationships.

Visit the Hampshire Domestic Abuse Partnership website for support and advice in Hampshire (this page has a quick exit facility and instructions on how you can delete your browser history).

If you have been sexually assaulted, it is important to remember that it was not your fault. Do not be afraid to seek help. Visit the Let’s Talk About It website for more information on the services available to you. You can also find a 24/7 Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Line at Rape Crisis or by calling them on 0808 500 2222.
