First aid training
ITC first aid course
Immediate temporary care courses have an unrivalled reputation amongst outdoor activity instructors. ITC courses are practical and hands on. The scenario based syllabus ensures plenty of opportunity to put first aid training into direct practice. A large part of each course is spent outside - these are not the usual classroom based first aid courses!
This two day course is suitable for all outdoor workers and satisfies the requirements of most governing bodies including MT, BCU, RYA, BASI and BOF.

Paddlesports
British canoeing - foundation rescue safety training (FSRT)
This training course aims to provide paddlers with the key safety and rescue skills required to operate safely and to be able to deal with common emergencies. These skills form the foundations for safety and rescue throughout British Canoeing qualifications.

This 2 day course is for those who wish to deliver paddle sport tasters and starter sessions within clubs and centres. The qualification is not discipline specific and is suitable for instructors who wish to work with any type of paddler.
The primary role of a Paddle sport Instructor is to deliver a safe and enjoyable sessions based on the group's needs. The qualification will cover kitting up a group, getting them afloat, initial familiarisation activities, games & activities to support learning and mini journeys to inspire new paddlers.

RYA start windsurfing instructor
This course covers the skills needed to teach and assess the RYA start windsurfing course and the youth windsurfing scheme stages one and two. We will cover all aspects of the RYA syllabus including assessment by an external coach.

This four day course incorporates the ‘non planing’ and ‘planing’ elements within the new Intermediate syllabus. Much of the focus will be on coaching skills and in particular the use of the FASTFWD coaching model.
Successful candidates will be awarded an intermediate ‘non planing’ or intermediate ‘planing’ instructor certificate depending on personal sailing standard and performance on the course.

Being located on the busy solent makes us a great venue to hone your powerboat knowledge and progress your skills. With plenty of other boats on the water and sight of the busy shipping channel you’ll have plenty of opportunity to learn in a real world setting.
Powerboating - RYA powerboat instructor skills assessment
Prior to attending a Powerboat Instructors course all candidates must pass the skills assessment, run by a RYA Powerboat Trainer. You should already hold a Level Two Powerboat certificate.

An intensive course that covers the teaching of levels one and two of the RYA scheme and includes practical sessions afloat and teaching theory. Once completed you will be competent in teaching others how to powerboat.

Our centres offer fantastic settings to improve your skills in mountain biking, cycle mechanics, climbing, hill walking and archery.
Mountain biking
We have a fleet of mountain bikes and easy access to cycling trails from our centres, making us the go to provider for your mountain bike leader qualifications.
MIAS level one
This is a two day course, for those with a medium level of fitness and basic off road mountain bike experience. Day one will be based at Tile Barn whilst Day two is based away from site. Courses are run together with training of the syllabus on day one and a group led journey with assessment on day two.
Candidates and the course instructor will decide after the assessment period whether certification for level 1 is awarded.
The course has a national accreditation with The Association of British Cycle Coaches (A.B.C.C), Cyclist’s Touring Club (C.T.C) and is recognised by the Adventure Activities Licencing Authority (AALA) and Adventuremark.

Velotech courses are nationally recognised awards that qualify you to work in the cycle industry, but they are also a great way to enhance your own knowledge and skills in cycle maintenance for personal use.
The courses range from training and assessment in basic bicycle maintenance, to assessment in bicycle mechanics to an industry standard level.
These courses carry the approval of the Bicycle Association of Great Britain (BAGB), the UK's manufacturers, importers and distributors association.
VELOTECH BRONZE
This award is ideal if you're looking to formalise experiences and learnings of cycle mechanics - whether you're a MTB leader, school teacher, instructor at an outdoor centre or even a parent keen to ensure the family’s bikes are safe and up to spec. We teach you how to inspect and sign off bicycles (except e-bikes) as being ‘up to standard’ – specifically the British Standard associated with bikes
PRE COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
- A simple existing knowledge of bikes and components
VELOTECH SILVER
Do you want the skills of a cycle mechanic? The course will provide great detail of safe workshop practices and an industry standard level of knowledge - it builds on the knowledge of the bronze level award. The award will leave you accredited to identify, inspect, adjust and replace many key components on bicycles (except e-bikes).
PRE COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
- 1 month must have passed since completing the Velotech Bronze Award
VELOTECH GOLD
This award is the natural step up from Velotech Silver and looks at solving common issues on bikes that often lead to the removal and replacement of components and systems.
Upon successful completion of this course, you should be able to identify, adjust and replace like-for-like components found on bicycles (except e-bikes), including the removal and refitting of a headset and bottom bracket, and have an understanding of considerations required for changes in specifications. You will also be able to solve common issues found with wheels.
PRE COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
- 1 month must have passed since completing the Velotech Silver Award
Rock climbing
Our large indoor climbing wall at Calshot offers year round access to a wide range of routes and variations of climbing including bouldering, auto-belays, top toping and lead climbing. The impressive size of the walls allows you to learn in a truly inspiring setting.
Climbing wall instructor award training
This training course provides the foundations and requirements for the CWI assessment course which will allow you to supervise others on artificial climbing walls. The syllabus includes teaching belaying, group management and coaching climbing movement. Candidates should have experience of leading routes at climbing walls and an interest in group supervision.

After completing your training, this assessment qualifies you to supervise others on artificial climbing walls. You will be assessed on the syllabus set out by Mountain Training including teaching belaying, group management and coaching climbing movement. You must ensure that you meet the requirements stipulated by Mountain Training before attending the course.

This Mountain Training qualification allows you to supervise others on single pitch crags and climbing walls. Skills covered include rope management, equipment and group management. Candidates should have experience of leading on traditional protection and an interest in group supervision.

Our centres in Hampshire offer easy access to varied low level terrain which is ideal for learning and assessing your mapwork and navigation skills.
Lowland leader award training
The Lowland Leader award has been designed for people who wish to lead groups on day walks in lowland countryside and woodland in summer conditions. The majority of the UK and Ireland is made up of this type of terrain so you'll never be short of places to go walking.
This course is based at Tile Barn Outdoor Centre at Brockenhurst in the heart of the New Forest.

Archery GB instructor award
The Archery GB Instructor Award is an entry-level training course and is delivered over 2 days. This course is specifically designed for people working in leisure, recreation and educational environments, now and in the future.
The new course is focused on training learners to deliver fun and safe introductory archery sessions. It includes a modernised learning programme and resources, and will be delivered by accredited Archery GB tutors.
