Recruit Junior Road Safety Officers

Recruit Junior Road Safety Officers and help other people at your school stay street safe.

Your role is to recruit Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSOs) and then supervise them through activities and offer support and guidance.

You can recruit interested primary school students in Years Five and Six through a number of means, including:

  • asking them to fill out the application form found in the JRSO booklet
  • conducting interviews
  • running a road safety competition
  • getting students to nominate their representatives

Having an informal talk with candidates before deciding who will take on the role is important to make sure they understand the job and that they definitely want to do it.

New JRSOs are invited to attend an online training session held during the Autumn or Spring term. The objective of the training is to provide the pupils with the knowledge and tools to teach their peers about road safety in the most fun and interactive way.

The session includes presentations as well as practical activities, such as t-shirt designing and interactive quizzes.
