Online road safety education

The Road Safety Team delivers engaging online road safety education for pupils in Years 2, 5 and 6 via Microsoft Teams. Our programmes are currently reaching over 20,000 pupils across Hampshire, helping schools to reinforce essential road safety messages in a flexible and accessible way.

Year 2 road safety programme

The Year 2 programme comprises three interactive workshops designed to introduce young learners to key road safety principles. Sessions cover:

  • The Green Cross Code
  • safe places to cross the road
  • how to use designated crossing points
  • what to wear to be visible
  • staying safe on the pavement

Each workshop lasts approximately 20 minutes and includes sing along songs and short video clips that demonstrate safe crossing behaviour in an engaging and age appropriate way.

Schools can choose to:

  • join the sessions live via Microsoft Teams, or
  • receive a recording to watch at a time that fits their timetable

Live sessions are available once per term, while recording links can be shared at any point throughout the year.

Year 5 and 6 road safety session

This essential road safety session focuses on pedestrian and cycling safety and is specifically designed for pupils in Years 5 and 6. It supports children at a key stage in their development, as many begin travelling to and from school more independently.

As pupils gain confidence and freedom on their journeys, it is vital they have the knowledge and skills to keep themselves — and others — safe. This interactive workshop explores real world risks and helps pupils develop the ability to make safe, responsible decisions whenever they walk or cycle.

During the session, pupils will:

  • learn how to behave safely as pedestrians and cyclists
  • understand what to wear to stay visible and protected
  • develop forward planning skills for safer journeys
  • revisit the Green Cross Code and other key road safety rules
  • consider how their actions impact the safety of friends and peers

This workshop builds confidence and independence while supporting schools in delivering effective road safety education and promoting pupil wellbeing.

The session is delivered live via Microsoft Teams throughout the summer term and is also available as a recorded session, allowing schools to access it at a time that best suits their timetable.
