Access to Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) for non-Hampshire residents

Visitors from outside of Hampshire will be charged £13.50 per visit to a Hampshire HWRC and will be additionally charged for any DIY waste deposited, for more information see our DIY and chargeable waste page. Payment is required when booking. You will receive an automatic refund if you cancel or don’t attend the appointment.

Exceptions
Portsmouth and Southampton

If you are a resident of Portsmouth or Southampton, you can use Hampshire HWRCs for free. You will need to book a visit.

You can dispose of DIY waste at a Hampshire HWRC in accordance with our DIY waste policy.

You can also apply for a permit for a van, pick-up or trailer.

Dorset

If you are a resident of Dorset Council, you can access Somerley HWRC for free.

You can dispose of DIY waste at a Hampshire HWRC in accordance with our DIY waste policy.

You will not be able to apply for a permit for a van, pick-up or trailer.

West Sussex

If you are a resident of West Sussex, you can access Petersfield HWRC and Havant HWRC for free.

You can dispose of DIY waste at a Hampshire HWRC in accordance with our DIY waste policy.

You will not be able to apply for a permit for a van, pick-up or trailer.

Visiting a Hampshire HWRC on behalf of a Hampshire resident

If you are not a resident of Hampshire, but you are bringing waste to a HWRC on behalf of a friend or relative who is a resident of Hampshire, then you will need to provide their Hampshire address when booking.

Other non-Hampshire residents

If you live outside of Hampshire, and are not a resident of either Portsmouth, Southampton, Dorset or West Sussex, you must pay an access fee of £13.50 to use a Hampshire HWRC.

You may not use a commercial-type vehicle such as a van or pick-up, or a large trailer, to access a site.

You can dispose of DIY waste but will be charged in accordance with our DIY waste policy.

Why non-Hampshire residents are being charged

The charge covers the cost of providing the service and disposal.

Councils only have a statutory duty to provide services for free disposal of household waste to their residents.
