Site regulations at Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs)
- Before you arrive
-
Check which types of waste you can dispose of at HWRCs. Each HWRC has specific lists of items they will and will not accept. Find out if waste can go in your domestic bin or in your recycling bin for collection - or if you, or other organisations, can make good use of it.
Ensure items are kept whole where possible. Do not break up larger items as doing so may be hazardous.
If you are disposing of household waste with a van, pick-up or trailer, you may need to apply for a permit.
If you are disposing of commercial or trade waste, see the trade waste service for a list of waste disposal charges.
Consider wearing sturdy footwear, gloves and sensible clothing.

- Only visit the recycling centre once during your booked timeslot. Each visit requires a separate booking.

- Be aware of moving vehicles and people moving large items.
- Be careful when moving and handling your waste, especially if they are large and heavy or have sharp edges.

- The decision of HWRC staff regarding the volume and composition of waste brought to site is final.
- Abusive or antisocial behaviour is not tolerated.
- If you visit frequently or deposit a lot of waste, staff may ask you to sign a declaration to confirm that the waste is from your household.
- Dangerous waste is not accepted.
- If you need assistance, speak to the site staff.

Some sites have steps up to the bins. Ask a member of site staff if you require assistance.
