Hampshire Domestic Abuse Authentic Voice Panel
Listening to lived experience. Shaping better support.
The Hampshire Domestic Abuse Authentic Voice Panel’s journey began in October 2024. They introduced themselves with a powerful message:
We are the voice of the 58,100 men, women, and young people in Hampshire affected by domestic abuse.
Their goal is to ensure that every service they engage with understands the significance of this number and the lives it represents.
The Panel is committed to making sure that the voices of those with lived experience are heard, respected, and placed at the heart of shaping future services across Hampshire.
Who we are
We are a diverse group of individuals who have experienced domestic abuse and are passionate about using our voices to make a difference.
Supported by an independent national provider called SafeLives, the panel is a safe, inclusive, and confidential space where members can share their insights and experiences without fear of judgment or influence.
Why we exist
Too often, decisions about domestic abuse services are made without fully understanding the realities faced by survivors. The Authentic Voice Panel exists to change that.
By creating a platform for honest, survivor-led conversations, we aim to inform and influence how services are designed, delivered, and improved.
What we hope to achieve
We hope to:
- empower survivors to share their experiences in a safe and supported environment
- Inform service providers and commissioners with real, lived insight
- drive meaningful change in how domestic abuse support is shaped across Hampshire
- promote accountability and ensure survivor voices are not only heard, but acted upon
This panel is not just about consultation—it's about co-creation. Together, we are working to build a future where domestic abuse services are more responsive, compassionate, and effective.
What we have achieved so far
So far, we have completed a:
- trauma informed strategy with our voices at the start and heart of change
- media campaign which highlights children and young people
- influencing training, decision-making, standards and policies
What our panel members say
I believe my son's/our lived experience as survivors can be used to the good of others, to prevent children and young people from ever having to live a life dominated by fear, self blame, sadness and a lack of trust and hope.
I am fiercely passionate about making changes to minimise the added trauma survivors experience when seeking support and giving evidence. I've worked within law enforcement, and I am a survivor of domestic abuse - I am now using my knowledge to spearhead change.
I want to ensure that any victim or survivor who seeks help from a statutory agency or service in Hampshire feels safe, heard and helped.
