From mucking out enclosures and building enrichment to preparing feed and learning about animal care, you’ll be kept busy with a wide range of different tasks whatever the weather, so we’re looking for hardworking people who are ready to get their hands dirty! Experience with animals is ideal, but by no means essential as you'll learn as you go. Ideally, our visitor services volunteer will be enthusiastic about history and possess a passion for educating our young visitors. For this role, you'll need to be 16 or over.
Grounds maintenance volunteer
The grounds maintenance team are looking for a helping hand to work alongside our assistant ranger. You'll be spotting them as they work at height or with machinery, helping clear brash, cutting hedges, mowing the grass, using hand tools, and ensuring the site stays clean and tidy. The team are also responsible for planting and maintaining our wildflower strips, as well as thinking of new and exciting ways to encourage pollinators and other wildlife on site. A volunteer with the knowhow to fix fences and maintain animal enclosures would be immensely helpful, but any help is appreciated. Working hours are very flexible. For this role, you'll need to be 18 or over.
Carpentry volunteer
We are looking for a group of volunteers to help us with a wide range of tasks here at Manor Farm, including building new animal housing and enrichment platforms, as well as repairing existing structures and much more. As a volunteer in this role, you'll need to have experience in carpentry or a similar role and be willing to help out where you can, bringing new ideas to the table for use across the farm. Jobs will vary in size, and so we are looking for team players who can work well in a group. For this role, you'll need to be 18 or over.
Gardeners
The gardening team at Manor do an excellent job maintaining and improving the cottage garden as well as our new polytunnel space, and they’re now looking for your help! As a volunteer gardener you'll continue this great work, as well as contribute to new ideas for the future of our garden spaces. For this role, you'll need to be 18 or over.
Education team
As a volunteer on the education team, you'll help deliver lessons to school groups as well as assist with organising educational visits from external organisations. The ideal volunteer will have a basic knowledge of animals, history or wildlife in order to deliver a range of activities to varying age groups from pre-school onwards. You’ll need to be an outdoorsy person, ready to set an example to the groups no matter the weather. You'll also need to be able to adapt to a constantly evolving environment, working as part of a team to come up with new ways to keep classes engaged. For this role, you'll need to be 16 or over.
