Holiday activities and meals

Holiday Activity and Food Programme

The Hampshire Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) grant applications from organisations on the Isle of Wight are now open for the Easter Holidays.

The Department for Education (DfE) is providing funding to local authorities to coordinate a programme that provides healthy food and enriching activities to disadvantaged children during the 2021 Easter, Summer and Christmas Holidays. Hampshire County Council plans to deliver this through the conect4communities programme.

We are seeking to engage with a wide network of community-based organisations, including existing holiday care providers, schools, childminders, sports coaching, creative and performing arts providers and many others. Healthy meals must also be provided, and each activity session must last for a minimum of four hours a day, for at least four days a week for:

  • one week at Easter
  • four weeks in the summer, and
  • a week at Christmas

All children in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight, who receive benefits related Free School Meals will be eligible to take part in the activities.

Hampshire County Council anticipates receiving up to £3.3 million from the DfE to support in excess of 26,000 children who receive free school meals for the period 1 April to 31 December 2021. The Isle of Wight Council anticipates receiving up to £407,000 to support more than 3,200 children who receive free school meals for the period 1 April to 31 December 2021.

Grants will be awarded to organisations who can demonstrate an ability to deliver:

  • high quality enriching activities
  • provide healthy meals
  • skills, activities/classes aimed at helping children and their parents to make healthy and affordable choices
  • a positive legacy that lasts longer than the experience

Three types of grant can be applied for:

  • Grant type A – Adding new places
  • Grant type B – Branching out
  • Grant type C – Creating and connecting
