On D-Day, 6 June 1944, nearly 133,000 Allied troops landed on the Normandy beaches to begin liberating France. Thousands had waited in temporary rural camps—known as Marshalling Area camps—unseen by most due to wartime secrecy. Despite their importance, these camps remain relatively under-documented today. The D-Day Story, Portsmouth has worked with local communities exploring this hidden history and led by University of Winchester, supported by veterans and volunteers, uncovered new archaeological finds.
This exhibition has been created by members of the Friends of Lepe, with The D-Day Story and can be viewed in the Lookout from Saturday 1st August until Sunday 30th August 9am - 5pm.
This is a free event and open for all to attend - Usual parking charges apply.
