School accommodation and catering

Accommodation and catering facilities for school groups

Made from local timber and constructed using various sustainable technologies, our state-of-the-art accommodation is warm and comfortable all year round.

Our two spacious dorms are able to sleep 19 and 18 children respectively, both located within a self-contained building. Each dorm is equipped with showers, toilets and a boot room. All bed linen is also provided.

Our comfortable communal social room is located at the centre of the block. Facilities available here include:

  • TV
  • Wi-Fi
  • tea-making facilities
  • log-burning stove with a supply of firewood sourced from our site

A total of 4 teachers or leaders can be accommodated for between 2 en-suite twin rooms. There are also two further twin rooms in the adjoining Old Schoolhouse.

Our team that spent the week with you cannot speak any more highly of the team at Minstead, describing you as 'welcoming and nothing was too much trouble'

Food and catering

Our kitchen team are experienced in providing delicious, child friendly and healthy food for all our visitors, including those with special diets.

Meals are served family-style in our dining room, with children working together to set tables, serve and clear up.

Breakfast

Breakfast is continental style, with cereals, toast and croissants.

Lunch

For lunch children make their own sandwiches or wraps with a selection of fillings available. They are also provided with crudités, homemade cakes or biscuits and fruit.

Dinner

For dinner, a hot 2 course meal is prepared by our cooks. Visiting schools select their meal from a menu sent out before the visit, and we always make sure there is plenty to go round.

Locally grown

Meals consist of local produce wherever possible. This includes delicious fruit and vegetables grown and harvested in our gardens.

Grounds

Our unique setting creates a magical learning environment and a relaxed, informal atmosphere for groups of all ages and backgrounds. The area is also an exciting and safe environment for children to explore, play, invent, have fun and let off steam.

The leafy, self-contained 7-acre grounds and gardens at Minstead Study Centre are used extensively during residential courses and provide plenty of opportunities for outdoor learning.

There are lots of features in our grounds to help facilitate learning. These include:

  • meadow and woodland habitats
  • pond and stream habitats
  • an iron-age thatched roundhouse
  • a fire pit
  • plenty of seating areas
  • a large and productive vegetable plot
  • 3 friendly sheep!

We also have a yard suitable for parking up to 10 vehicles. Laybys are available outside the gates to further facilitate parking.

Children and Staff have fully enjoyed our visit. The food in particular was a huge hit.
