Educational support

Our Adoption Support Team supports families with bridging the gap between home and school. We work closely with parents and educational professionals to ensure that adopted children’s unique needs, particularly those related to trauma, attachment, and identity, are understood and supported.

Through Educational Psychologist consultations, school visits, multi-agency meetings, and Educational Support Plan meetings, we help schools implement trauma-informed strategies that promote emotional regulation, inclusion, and a sense of safety for every child.

Educational Psychologists work closely with our region’s Virtual Schools to support the education and wellbeing of children who have experienced care. Their role is to assess learning and emotional needs, provide specialist advice, and recommend strategies that help schools create nurturing, trauma-informed environments. By collaborating with Virtual Schools, they ensure that these recommendations are reflected in Personal Education Plans (PEPs) and that schools have clear, practical guidance to meet each child’s needs.

This partnership also helps maintain continuity when children move between schools or local authorities. Educational Psychologists contribute to multi-agency meetings, advise on attachment and special educational needs, and support the effective use of resources such as Pupil Premium. Working alongside Virtual Schools means families receive coordinated support, and children benefit from consistent approaches that help them thrive academically and emotionally.
