Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) Course

Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) is a therapeutic parenting approach that helps parents and caregivers respond to challenging behaviours calmly and effectively, aiming to reduce conflict. For adoptive families, this is especially important because many children have experienced trauma, loss, and disrupted attachments, which can lead to behaviours that feel overwhelming. Traditional parenting strategies often do not work in these situations; NVR offers a compassionate alternative that prioritises connection over control.

Our eight-week programme both online and in-person, is specially adapted through an adoption lens, provides practical tools to de-escalate crises, reduce aggression, and rebuild trust. Parents will learn how trauma shapes behaviour, how to maintain parental presence during difficult moments, and how to create a sense of safety for children. The course involves adoptive parents who may have similar experiences and understand the challenges other parents face. The aim is to create a supportive space to talk, share similar stories and reduce the feeling of isolation. By the end of the course, parents will feel more confident, connected, and equipped to restore hope and stability in their family.
