Join Claire from Wild Crayon for two hours up Butser Hill to discover the joy of taking time to really notice our natural world. Learn how simple drawing activities can turn a walk in the countryside into a magical world of wonder, noticing and slowing down, benefitting our mental health and bringing calm to our busy lives.
Butser Hill is a very special site, full of wild flowers, birds and bugs, and of course incredible views. We will meet at the Roundhouse cafe near the carpark at the top of the hill and take a very gentle walk to explore the area - we won’t be climbing up the hill or walking very far, it will mostly be sitting, looking and doodling! There is a cafe and toilets right by our meeting point.
Through guided activities we will take a slow approach to noticing our natural environment, and use a pencil to enhance our observations. Taking the time to draw simple natural shapes or do some nature doodles gives our minds time to slow down, and focus on something immediate and simple.
This focus on the process of drawing (rather than the finished result) means that everyone, regardless of previous drawing experience, can benefit from the joy of Green Sketching. Absolute beginners very much encouraged… and don’t worry, we won’t be sharing or comparing our drawings!
All materials provided, participants just need drinks/snacks and appropriate footwear and clothing for being outside. There will be short stretches of walking as part of the workshop.
