Love Parks Week - Dig Day Bike Trails

Join us for Love Parks Week at Queen Elizabeth Country Park

26 July 2024 3pm to 7pm

dig day

Join us for a special Friday evening volunteer session for Love Parks Week! Meeting at 3pm in Upper Windmill Car Park (sometimes referred to as lower Juniper /Laser Tag Area).

Ever wondered what happens on a Dig Day? Here is your chance to join our volunteers on the Middle Blue Trail, clearing soil deposits, re-building berms, and improving drainage. The QECP Trail Collective are a group of volunteers who want to ensure that the trails in the park are safe, fun to use, and suitable for various levels of experience. The 'dig days' at QECP involve manual labour using a selection of tools, including spades, rakes, hoes and mattocks.

Important Information

  • On arrival you will be asked to provide an emergency contact number, health details to ensure safety on the task, and to confirm if you are happy with photo consent.
  • Teenagers may join alongside a parent or guardian, however, they will be responsible for them during the task and are to ensure they only carry out appropriate activities for their age and physical ability.
  • Due to the nature of the work, this session is not suitable for children.
  • While this will be of particular interest to those who use the trails, it is not just for mountain bikers. No riding is required on dig days!
  • All participants will be given a tool & task talk. This is for your safety and that of others, whilst you are volunteering.
  • You will need to bring your water bottle, snacks, warm layers or waterproofs, and gloves, along with wearing long trousers and appropriate sturdy footwear, such as walking boots or ideally steal toe capped boots. (You may not be able to take part if you have inappropriate footwear.)
  • Insect repellent is also advisable, as you will be in the woods and therefore need to be mindful of ticks/mosquitos.
