Following a death and during a Coroner’s inquest, seeking support from dedicated organisations and charities can help.
Some resources available to residents of Hampshire include:
- Cruse Bereavement Support - phone 0808 808 1677
- NHS bereavement helpline - phone 0800 2600 400
- The Silver Line offers a free confidential helpline for older people which is open 24 hours a day. Phone 0800 470 8090
- HASAG asbestos disease support is a registered charity dedicated to supporting those affected by mesothelioma, asbestosis or any other asbestos-related disease throughout the South of England, South East, London and Home Counties
- Citizens Advice Hampshire
- Samaritans - phone 116 123 (free from any phone)
- Death positive libraries - a service located in Basingstoke Discovery Centre, Chandler’s Ford Library, New Milton Library, Stubbington Library and Waterlooville Library offering books, resources and guidance from trained staff
- Support After Suicide Service by Cruse offers a confidential support service for people bereaved by, or affected by, suicide who are a Hampshire resident
Other resources that may help with bereavement, grief and loss include:
- talking about your feelings over the phone or the internet to a friend, family member, health professional or counsellor
- simple lifestyle changes to help you feel more in control and able to cope, a little exercise, a regular bed time routine, limiting alcohol, maintaining contact with relatives and friends as best you can using the phone or the internet
- help getting to sleep if you are struggling to sleep
- listening to free mental wellbeing audio guides
- setting small targets that you can easily achieve – try not to do everything at once
- focus your time and energy into helping yourself feel better – not the things you can't change
