The team forms part of Hampshire Scientific Service, and provides asbestos management services, including testing and inspection work, to help Hampshire County Council and other clients comply with their requirements under the Control of Asbestos Regulations (2012).
What is asbestos?
Asbestos is a fibrous material that until 1999 (when it was banned) was used widely in the construction of buildings and production of various materials. These fibres when disturbed can become airborne and inhaled, leading to serious illnesses.
Asbestos must be identified and managed carefully to prevent releasing these fibres into the air. This is our service’s specialism.
We conduct a range of asbestos testing and inspection services, including building inspection, air monitoring and fibre analysis of bulk materials as well as providing BOHS approved P-Module training, Asbestos Awareness training and Drone services.
We manage asbestos data held for Hampshire County Council’s built estate and provide asbestos management controls and training internally and to contractors working on our estate. We also provide asbestos advice and testing & inspection services to other public sector bodies.
