Asbestos Awareness

Our Asbestos Awareness course meets the requirements of Regulation 10 within the Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2012 and the requirements of the HCC Corporate Asbestos Procedure. The aim of the course is to provide you with an understanding of asbestos, its risks and your legal duties.

Following completion, you should be able to avoid work which may disturb asbestos during your normal work activities, and should you discover it, understand what to do next.

Who this course is for

Under the HCC Corporate Asbestos Procedure, this training is required by Responsible Managers, Nominated Responsible Persons, all staff with Facilities Management responsibilities and HCC Surveyors / Property Management Staff who commission works which may disturb the fabric of a building.

Course content

Our course is a mix of traditional presentation and practical exercises along with interactive discussion. Throughout the course there is plenty of opportunity to ask questions and compare experiences. Participants will undertake a multiple-choice test at the end of the course.

The course syllabus covers the following topics:

  • What is asbestos? The history of asbestos, its properties and uses.
  • Health issues. Health hazards and risks associated with asbestos.
  • ACM products. An overview of common ACMs, including typical locations and what they look like.
  • Asbestos registers and surveys. We explain what they are and the types.
  • Legislation. An overview of asbestos regulations and your duties.
  • Emergency decontamination procedures. What to do if you suspect asbestos has been disturbed.

This course is an awareness only course and does not prepare delegates to work with asbestos. You would need further training for this. If needed, we can provide advice on what course would best suit you.
