Advisory visits

Visits by individual members of the curriculum team can be purchased by schools for £55 an hour.

They could include:

  • Inspection of and advice on curriculum provision, including Ofsted preparation and follow up
  • Review and development of music policy and planning, and development of classroom materials
  • Advice on music provision, resourcing and accommodation
  • Provision of staff development and training including practical workshops and professional development days
  • Assistance in the appointment of music managers

These courses will all take place at the Rookwood Centre, Penshurst Way, Eastleigh, Hampshire, SO50 4RJ.

Musical Spotlight – Introducing Recorders KS1/KS2 – Tuesday 22 October 2019, 13.30 – 15.30
Free half-day afternoon course.
Anyone is welcome to attend – no previous playing experience is necessary.  Delegates will receive a free recorder resource to use with their pupils.

Special Managers’ Course – Tuesday 11 February 2020, 9.00 – 15.30 - £50 per delegate
This is a one-day course for all special school teachers’ with responsibility for music.
The course is aimed to be a light, enjoyable and informative day of musical learning, exploring music through a variety of practical games and activities.  Sharing planning as well as discussing ideas and approaches to the music curriculum.

Musical Spotlight – Introducing Ukuleles KS1/KS2 – Tuesday 5 May 2020, 13.30 – 15.30
Free half-day afternoon course.
Anyone is welcome to attend – no previous playing experience is necessary. Delegates will receive a free ukulele resource to use with their pupils.

Special Teachers’ Course – Tuesday 19 May 2020, 09.30 – 15.30 - £50 per delegate
A one-day course for all special school teachers who teach classroom music. No previous experience of music needed.
The aim of the day is to give practical activities and ideas for the use in your classroom music sessions, using new materials and ideas.  Staff can continue to build on their own existing repertoire of musical games, songs and other activities, focussing specifically on planning.

Music Managers course - Tuesday 1 October 2019 and Tuesday 21 January 2020 - £100 per delegate both days must be attended
Two-day course suitable for newly appointed music managers or more experienced managers who want to brush up on the basics.

NQT and “new to teaching music” course – Tuesday 12 November 2019 - £50 per delegate
One-day course specially designed for NQTs wishing to improve their knowledge of the music curriculum and their music teaching skills. Suitable for any Primary NQTs and any teachers who are new to teaching music.
