eNewsletters

The primary and special schools eNewsletter is emailed to Hampshire Maintained schools for free at the beginning of every term. They give updates on all the recent national music updates, events and projects coming up as well as CPD opportunities. If you are the music coordinator at your Hampshire school and are not receiving these, then let us know so that we can add you to our distribution list.

Song of the Week

Song of the Week song bank is a free resource for Hampshire schools. Each half term you can explore a new song to use in the classroom or with your choir for each week of term. Our team of vocal specialists have carefully selected and written songs to suit primary voices which are easy to use regardless of your singing experience. You will find songs from lots of different genres, some unaccompanied and others with backing tracks and there will always be a ‘sing along’ video track to help with learning the song. Each song will also have a ‘hints and tips’ page with further ideas so that you can explore the song in as little or as much detail as you like!

This resource can be purchased by non Hampshire (out of county or independent) schools for £30 per academic year.

Here's a taster of our very first Song of the Week back in September 2014:

BBC Ten Pieces

The Hampshire Music Service are delighted to be a BBC Ten Pieces Champion!

Ten Pieces is an exciting new national initiative for all 21,000 primary schools in the UK, led by BBC Learning and the BBC performing groups, focusing on classical music and creativity. It aims to introduce a generation of children to a range of classical music and inspire them to use the music as a stimulus for their own creativity. Pupils may respond to the pieces of music through music composition, dance, digital art and other art forms as well as taking part in performances of the pieces.

Singing from the beginning - Early Years publication

74 page publication (£7.99)

This publication is a practical guide for music in the early years. It is packed full of carefully chosen songs and activities that are easy to dip into. It includes a wide repertoire of tried and tested songs and suggestions for how to give children a creative, inspiring musical start in life, to encourage them to be “Singing from the beginning”!

The songs and activities are suitable for babies, toddlers, pre-school and Reception children. The 'One To One Songs' and the 'Spoken Rhymes', for example, are perfect for babies, whilst the 'Circle Songs' and 'Role Play Songs' work brilliantly in pre-school and Reception classes. Many of the songs are set to familiar tunes, some have new, simple tunes. The notation for the songs can be found at the back of the book, and the link to audio files (not provided with the sample) will help practitioners learn the songs.
