Hampshire Police and Crime Panel welcomes new member
A new independent co-opted member has been welcomed onto the Hampshire Police and Crime Panel, to help scrutinise, challenge and support the work of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire.
The appointment was approved at a meeting of the Police and Crime Panel on Friday 26 January, together with approval for an existing independent co-opted member, to remain in her role for a further term. The appointments followed a recruitment process held for both positions that involved interviews with a sub-group of existing Panel members. Both members will now sit on the Panel until its Annual General Meeting in 2028.
- Trevor Cartwright from Fareham is appointed as a new independent co-opted member, replacing Dave Stewart who stood down at the end of August. Trevor has previously held senior roles in a shipbuilding company and was a councillor on Fareham Borough Council from 2000 to 2022.
- Shirley Young will continue in her current role as an independent co-opted member, for a second term.
The Panel's Chairman, Councillor Seán Woodward of Fareham Borough Council, said: "We are delighted to welcome Trevor Cartwright as a new member to the Hampshire Police and Crime Panel, and re-appoint Shirley Young for a further term.
“The selection process for these roles was highly competitive, with the successful candidates bringing a wealth of experience and skill to the positions, enabling them to play a key part in our important work to scrutinise and support the Police and Crime Commissioner."
The Police and Crime Panel includes representatives from each of the local authorities in the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police area. This includes the unitary authorities of Portsmouth, Southampton and the Isle of Wight, the 11 Hampshire Borough and District councils, and Hampshire County Council. Two non-political members of the Panel are also appointed to add to the collective spread of experience and knowledge.
