Recorder opportunities

Jamborees

The annual Recorder events are held during the summer term. On the day there is an afternoon rehearsal, concluding with a brief concert. Hampshire primary school children get to experience playing the recorder and to participate in a large ensemble. This is a fun and exciting opportunity for pupils to take part in.

Recorder booklet

Recorders for KS1 and KS2 is published by the Hampshire Music Service. It offers tips on recorder teaching and suggestions for repertoire. Some case studies of successful recorder playing schools are also included.

This publication is available to Hampshire maintained schools in our secure area.

Vocal Opportunities

The Curriculum Team includes a vocal coordinator working across the County on specific projects to promote and to raise the profile of singing in schools.

Vocal Festivals

The Vocal Festivals are back! To follow in line with the success of the Record Festivals and the planned Ukulele Festivals. We are looking for host schools to hold the final performances, so get in touch.

Vocal workshops

These workshops are available for developing or extending your choir, and culminate in a performance opportunity. Visits will be established with the vocal coordinator to encourage targets to be set. Workshops take place during school time, with the opportunity for the teacher to meet with the coordinator after the contact with the choir. Details will be sent to schools as appropriate.

Area vocal projects

These are offered to clusters of schools and involve working with class teachers and their pupils to develop the quality of the teaching of singing. Projects culminate with a vocal festival for all participating schools to give pupils an exciting musical experience.

World Music and the Primary Curriculum

World music workshops and residencies give a fresh approach to delivering Primary Curriculum. Children from YR upwards develop musical understanding and skills through ensemble playing and practical musical making. Workshops are adapted to the age and experience of the children, making every session an inclusive opportunity.

World music workshops give children the experience of playing together, promoting teamwork, as well as the personal skills of listening, following instructions and the development of bilateral co-ordination.
