The creation of a new tree trail began 23 February 2023 at Staunton Farm. The trail is marked by a new 110 metre hedge, donated by The Tree Council, which forms a boundary around the outside of the animal paddocks. Over 600 native hedge species were planted by volunteers from WSP UK Ltd, Havant Borough Tree Wardens and Staunton Farm.
The new circular route will reveal previously hidden views of Staunton Farm, including the ancient lime trees and Cedar of Lebanon. It will wind through pine trees, around the outer paddocks and finish with a stroll through a small woodland. The trail will be marked by new chestnut cleft fencing and gates that will open into the woodland. We’re also planning to plant more trees in the future and install signposts to provide additional information about the trees at Staunton.
The beautiful new walking route will also be managed to improve the area’s biodiversity. This includes the removal of invasive laurel so that more light will reach flowers and plants on the ground, encouraging growth and regeneration.
Thank you to all the volunteers and staff at Staunton Farm. For more information about how you can help with tree planting in your area, visit our get involved page.
