About Hampshire Archives
We are Hampshire County Council’s Archive service, based at Hampshire Record Office in Winchester, and we provide specialist storage and conservation for, and public access to, historic documents relating to Hampshire.
Our mission
To collect, safeguard, and share Hampshire’s rich archival heritage for people now, and for future generations.
Accreditation, July 2024
We are pleased to announce that Hampshire Archives, including the Wessex Film and Sound Archive, has retained the Archive Service Accreditation Standard for another six years. This means that the service continues to meet the UK industry ‘gold standard’ for its outstanding work to preserve, conserve, and provide access to Hampshire’s precious historic records.
National accreditation is awarded following a rigorous assessment process including site inspections, so Hampshire residents and our partner organisations can be assured that their heritage is in the best of hands.
Policy and performance
We serve residents of Hampshire, and the wider community and are one of the busiest archive services in the country. We hold national accreditation status, awarded by The National Archives, which recognises high levels of performance in local authority archive services.
