Book an appointment to visit your HWRC

You must have an appointment to visit an HWRC in Hampshire. If you visit an HWRC without an appointment you will be turned away.

Initially introduced as a response to manage the sites during the Coronavirus pandemic, the booking system has proved popular with residents as it enables planning with confidence that waste can be deposited swiftly and easily. It has also enabled the HWRCs to operate more efficiently, and reduced queuing and disruption often seen during busy weekends and bank holidays. A decision was therefore taken in January 2022 to retain the booking system permanently due to the customer and operational benefits it has brought. You can read the full information supporting the decision in the Decision Report.

If you are visiting Portsmouth (Paulsgrove) HWRC, operated by Portsmouth City Council, you will also require an appointment. Some guidance may vary so please visit the Portsmouth website for more information.

If you are visiting Southampton City Depot (Millbrook) HWRC, operated by Southampton City Council, you will not require an appointment. This is the only HWRC within Hampshire which does not require appointments.

You can book your appointment up to 7 days in advance and you can make as many appointments as you require. Please consider others and only book what you need. Each booking is valid for one visit within the time slot.

Same day bookings are currently available at the following sites:

  • New Alresford
  • Romsey (Casbrook)
  • Efford
  • Farnborough
  • Waterlooville
  • Winchester

We are working to introduce same day bookings across the wider network.

Before you visit

If you haven’t already done so, register your vehicle. You only need to register once but will need to make a booking for each visit. If you’re unsure if your vehicle is registered, the quickest option is to recomplete the registration form with your most up to date details.

If you have a commercial-type vehicle or large trailer, ensure you have a valid permit. This must be presented to site staff on arrival at your appointment.

Booking an appointment

Click on the 'Book an appointment online' button below and select the HWRC you wish to visit.

You will need to know the registration of the vehicle you will be visiting the site in. If you make a mistake and book with the wrong registration, cancel the booking and rebook with the correct information. If you make an error, you may not be allowed into the site.

If you will be using a hire van and do not know the vehicle registration, enter HIRE VAN in the registration box and also read our hire van guidance.

We politely request that those attending a site in a van book no later than 5pm if possible to ensure sufficient time to unload.

If you will be visiting on a bicycle, enter BIKE in the registration box and also read our cyclist guidance.

Be aware that for Apple devices, the minimum requirement in order for the booking system to work effectively is IOS13 or newer; if you experience difficulties, you may wish to consider using another device to book your appointment.

We ask for an email address which will be used to send you a confirmation of your booking. Information you provide in relation to your booking will be automatically deleted after 14 days. For more information read our HWRC Booking Privacy Notice.

Be considerate to other residents and cancel any bookings made you no longer require, so that they can be made available to others.

You can cancel or amend your booking by clicking the link contained at the bottom of your confirmation email. You have the choice to either cancel your booking, or reschedule it to another available date and time.

During your visit
  • Arrive at the site within your booked appointment time. Staff may be unable to permit access to those who arrive before or after their booked 30 minute window.
  • Sites may be slightly busier at the beginning of each time slot so please be patient if you have to wait for a short time before entering the site.
  • Site staff will have a list of the booked vehicle registrations; however, you may wish to note your booking confirmation number.
  • Site staff are there to help and keep you safe. If you require assistance at any time or guidance on what bin to use, please ask.

Two HWRCs in Hampshire allow pedestrian access during set time periods.

  • Hedge End: Thursdays, 9am-10am
  • New Alresford: Thursdays and Saturdays, 9am-10am

Please see our pedestrian webpage for full information and guidance.

If you attempt to walk into any other site or it is outside of pedestrian access times, you will be turned away.
