Coroners records

Very few coroners' records survive for Hampshire until the middle of the 20th century. Those researching accidental or unusual deaths in Hampshire will therefore need to use local newspapers where some quite detailed reports can be found.

Survival of coroner records are as follows

  • Central and Southampton & New Forest from 1936
  • North East Hampshire from 1941
  • Portsmouth and South East Hampshire from 1953

These files hold sensitive information and are not available to the general public. All enquiries should be directed to the relevant Coroner.
