Greywell Tunnel

Springs inside the tunnel are an important water source for the Canal

Greywell Tunnel

The Greywell Tunnel took the Canal under Greywell Hill. With no towpath boats were "legged" through whilst the barges horses were lead over the top. The tunnel partially collapsed in 1932 and has become one of Europe's largest bat roosts. The imposing eastern portal is now Grade II listed.

There is no public access to the tunnel.
