Maintenance works planned on the Canal

The following is a list of the planned canal or third party maintenance works we are currently aware of. Occasionally emergency stoppages for unforeseen events occur (eg: fallen trees) - see our Facebook page for the latest updates.

Work Description: Bank repair works at Mytchett Lake
Location: Mytchett Lake, Mytchett, Ash
Address (near): South West end of Mytchett Lake, near the railway bridge. (What3Words :pint.detect.arrive)
Date of Works: Started February 16th 2026 – 12 week duration
Effects on Towpath or Other Facility: Closed – recommended diversion route posted on site.
Effects on Navigation: Closure whilst works take place underneath the  railway bridge – otherwise obey contractor’s direction.
Current status: Underway.

Work Description: Replacement of the Lock 12 Upper Lock gates
Location: Lock 12
Address: near the A322, Bagshot Road. (What3Words :grid.weedy.burst)
Date of Works: 2/3/26 – 6/3/26
Effects on Towpath or Other Facility: Towpath Closed
Effects on Navigation: Towpath Closed. Diversion -  recommended diversion route posted on site.
Current status: Planned

Work Description: Replacement of Lock 2 Footbridge
Location: Lock 2
Address: near Scotland Bridge Road, Woodham (What3Words :finger.sharp.hats)
Date of Works: 23/02/26 – 31/3/26
Effects on Towpath or Other Facility: Lock tail footbridge closed - recommended diversion route posted on site.
Effects on Navigation: Closed
Current status: Planned

Work Description: Repair of stop plank groove and towpath wall
Location: Chequers and Poulters Bridges
Address: Crondall Lane, Crookham Village, Hampshire
Date of Works: TBC (Autumn/Winter 2026)
Effects on Towpath or Other Facility: TBC - Likely to be closed during works
Effects on Navigation:  Closed – coffer dams installed
Current status: Initial planning

Work Description: Lock 15 car park repairs
Location: Lock 15
Address: off Bisley Camp Road, Pirbright, Guildford, Surrey (What3Words asserts.lovely.remain)
Date of Works: TBC (March 2026 - estimate)
Effects on Towpath or Other Facility: Car park closed for the duration of the project. Expected duration 1 week.

Effects on Towpath or Other Facility: None - Pontoon may be in place to maintain towpath during some phases of work

Current status: Works postponed

Work Description: Bridge Replacement
Location: Eelmoor Bridge
Address: near Lafans Road, Farnborough
Date of Works: November 2025 – March 2026
Effects on Towpath or Other Facility: Closed under bridge – local diversion available
Effects on Navigation: Closed
Current status: Contractor on site
