If you wish to carry out any works which require access across and/or works on or over Basingstoke Canal property this must be approved in advance, and there is likely be a fee.

Maintenance works planned on the Canal

The following is a list of the planned canal or third party maintenance works we are currently aware of. Occasionally emergency stoppages for unforeseen events occur (eg: fallen trees) - see our Facebook page for the latest updates.

Work Description: Repair of stop plank groove and towpath wall
Location: Hampshire Pound: Chequers Bridge (Crookham Wharf) downstream to Poulters Bridge (Zephon Common Lane)
Address: Crondall Lane, Crookham Village, Hampshire
Date of Works: Monday 26 October 2026 to Wednesday 31 March 2027
Effects on Towpath or Other Facility:  Diversions in place around each bridge. Towpath users are advised to take additional care as it will involve crossing a public highway. There will be sections of Crookham Wharf car park sectioned off during this period to be used as a works compound, and on occasions, a full car park closure may be in place to facilitate plant and material deliveries.
Effects on Navigation:  Closed to all users. Dams will be installed and canal drained for an estimated 700m section.

Planned Third-party works

Organisation requesting works: Surrey County Council
Location: Scotland Bridge Road Car Park
Address: Scotland Bridge Road, Woodham, near West Byfleet, Surrey
Date of Works: Monday 12th October 2026 to Tuesday 13th April 2027
Effects on Towpath or Other Facility: Full car park closure to members of the public to facilitate bank stabilisation works. Towpath unaffected, but extra care required by all users
Effects on Navigation: Unaffected, but extra care required by all users passing through Lock 2.

Organisation requesting works: Surrey County Council
Location: Sheerwater Road Bridge, adjacent to Lock 6
Address: Sheerwater Road, Sheerwater/ West Byfleet, Surrey
Date of Works: TBC – early November 2026
Effects on Towpath or Other Facility: Likely to be short towpath diversion in place.
Effects on Navigation: TBC – likely to be unaffected
Current status: In planning

Location: Claycart Bridge, Puckridge Hill Road, Aldershot, Hampshire

Location: Hampshire Pound: Double Bridge / Dogmersfield Bridge
