If you wish to carry out any works which require access across and/or works on or over Basingstoke Canal property this must be approved in advance, and there is likely be a fee.

Maintenance works planned on the Canal

The following is a list of the planned canal or third party maintenance works we are currently aware of. Occasionally emergency stoppages for unforeseen events occur (eg: fallen trees) - see our Facebook page for the latest updates.

Location: Chequers and Poulters Bridges

Effects on Towpath or Other Facility: TBC - Likely to be closed during works
Effects on Navigation:  Closed – coffer dams installed

Organisation requesting works: Network Rail
Work Description: Maintenance on railway bridge
Location: Ash Wharf Rail Bridge
Address: near Wharf Road, Ash Vale
Date of Works: TBC
Effects on Towpath or Other Facility: None - Pontoon may be in place to maintain towpath during some phases of work
Effects on Navigation: Closed
Current status: Works postponed

Organisation requesting works: Surrey County Council (Highways)
Location: Scotland Bridge Road
Address: Scotland Bridge Road, Woodham
Date of Works: 2026 date TBC
Effects on Towpath or Other Facility: Roadside footway and towpath closed under bridge
Effects on Navigation: Closures at certain stages of work
Current status: Initial planning

Organisation requesting closure: Farnborough International Airshow
Description: Airshow – aerial display. Closure to navigation and towpath to comply with safety regulations.
Location: Between Norris Bridge and Eelmoor Bridge
Address: near Lafans Road, Farnborough
Date of closure: 12.30pm to 5pm, 13 – 24 July 2026
Effects on Towpath or Other Facility: Towpath closed.
Effects on Navigation: Closed. Strictly no mooring (even outside of the closure times) on this section during these dates.
