Amazon Adventure

Teamwork – Communication - Resilience

Children work in teams to solve problems in a fictional jungle setting.

During this 1-hour session (best aligned with the key stage 2 curriculum), children work in teams to complete two activities. They will begin to develop some of the key skills for working in teams, these may include communication, encouragement, persevering and co-operation. Each activity is linked to a fictional scenario based in the Amazon Rainforest.

Teachers will need to choose two out of the three options:

  • Walking the planks – in teams of 4 or 5 children use 2 planks to stand on to move across a ‘boggy’ area to collect a rare orchid.
  • Passing Water – in teams, children need to transport a precious medicine around the ‘treetops’ (a circular section of the adventure playground), without spilling a drop.
  • Nightline – in teams, children, wearing blackout goggles, follow a rope around some low obstacles.

Teamwork – Communication - Independent thinking

The aim of this 2-hour session (best aligned with the key stage 2 curriculum) is for children to communicate effectively with others. In teams, they will have lots of different opportunities to develop and practise their communication skills. The session begins with teams working together to problem solve to earn counters. Each group will then use the counters they have earned to buy materials to create a capsule to protect their egg. The capsules, with the eggs inside, will then be launched from our trebuchet.

Earthquake

Independent thinking – Patience - Knowledge

Work as rescue teams in our fictional earthquake zone!

The aim of this session is to develop positive relationships through working cooperatively.

During this whole morning or afternoon session, the children (best aligned with the key stage 2 curriculum), working in rescue teams, will face lots of different challenges to develop their teamwork skills, particularly focusing on working cooperatively. In their rescue teams, children will be given a range of equipment which they have to transport safely around the Earthquake Zone.
