Sir Jonathan Portal
Jonathan Portal was born and brought up in North Hampshire. He graduated from Edinburgh University, qualified as a chartered accountant and for most of his early career he was based in London running finance departments for small to medium sized companies. His particular interest in strategy and business development for small companies led him to start his own practice acting as finance director / advisor for a diverse portfolio of companies based in Hampshire, London, and further afield. He is a member of the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce.
Jonathan was a governor of a school for many years, he was a director of a housing association and has been actively involved with local charities including The Friends of Winchester Cathedral, CPRE, Step by Step and Explore. He is in line to be Master of the Clothworkers’ Livery Company in 2019/20.
His understanding of the wider issues in Hampshire increased considerably in 2015/16 when his wife Louisa, was High Sheriff. He looks forward to being part of a forum which will consider how best to plan for the future of Hampshire so that it meets the needs and expectations of everyone who works, lives or visits this wonderful county.
