Years 5 and 6

Aim

To educate Years 5 and 6 pupils about the dangers of secondhand smoke in the home/car and to provide necessary strategies to reduce exposure.

Previous learning

Pupils will have a basic understanding of the dangers of smoking to health from previous lessons.

Learning goals

By the end of the lessons each pupil should be able to:

  1. Describe where secondhand smoke can be found
  2. Explain the dangers of secondhand smoke to children’s health
  3. Describe strategies to reduce exposure in the home and car
  4. To write a persuasive letter to a smoker encouraging them to smoke away from children
