Netley Military Cemetery

Burials from the World Wars

Netley Military Cemetery is a permanent military cemetery, the property of the Ministry of Defence and managed by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.  The cemetery was at the back of the Royal Victoria Hospital site and was used for the burial of patients and hospital staff and their families before also being used for war graves.  The cemetery contains 714 First World War burials and 36 Second World War burials, but records indicate that around 3,600 people have been buried here since the 1860s.

In addition to UK and Commonwealth graves, there are a number of war graves of other nationalities, including 65 German graves dating from the First World War.

The Friends of Royal Victoria Country Park group run regular guided walks to the cemetery. See our events calendar for more details.
