Anglo-Saxon Experience

Independent thinking – Social - Knowledge

The aim of this session is for children to investigate and understand what life was like for people living in this area during the Anglo-Saxon era. The session will take place in our purpose-built Longhouse.

During this 2-hour session (best aligned with the key stage 2 curriculum), children will have an opportunity to investigate and explore what life was like for the Anglo-Saxons by engaging in a range of activities.

The first hour will be spent using historical enquiry skills and investigating, through activities such as: looking closely at Anglo-Saxon artefacts; carrying out an archaeological dig; piecing pottery together... and many more.

The second hour will focus on carrying out some common Anglo-Saxon daily tasks. These may include: building a wattle and daub hurdle; making cord using a trollen wheel; making clay pots; playing games ….to name a few.

This can be a one hour or a two hour session. If a one hour session is selected, please indicate whether you want the focus to be on the historical enquiry hour or Anglo-Saxon activities.

Stone Age Experience

Teamwork – Communication - Knowledge

The aim of this session is for children to understand what life was like for people living in this area during the Stone Age. This session can be a 1-hour or a 2-hour session and is best suited to the key stage 2 curriculum.

The first hour will be spent investigating life in the Stone Age through activities such as: handling artefacts; creating cave paintings; trying out the skills of a Stone Age hunter/gatherer... and much more.

The second hour takes us to the beach where the children will learn more about what the coastline looked like during the Stone Age. They will take part in activities at the beach that include: searching for typical Stone Age tools; identifying sources of food for the people of this time; creating natural artwork in teams using the Stone Age as inspiration.
