Giving just a few hours of your time regularly can make a huge difference. As a volunteer, you could be helping our library customers, running events or organising activities for children or adults.

Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills, gain varied experience, meet new people and give something back. Working alongside our friendly library teams, you’ll help to deliver library services to your local community.

Branch Volunteer

This customer-facing role plays an important part in supporting access to library services and is a great way to give something back to your local community. You’ll gain experience in a wide variety of tasks, including:

  • Welcoming and providing customer service to visitors
  • Assisting with the day-to-day management of books and other stock
  • Assisting with regular and programmed events

    Home library service volunteer

    The home library service provides books, audiobooks and other library resources to those who are unable to visit the library. As a home library service volunteer, you’ll select get to know the people you support so you can select and deliver books and reading materials to them.

    Summer reading challenge volunteer

    The annual summer reading challenge is a brilliant way to keep children reading during the summer holidays. As a volunteer, you’ll help children register for the challenge and talk to them about the books they’ve read and encourage them to share their views.
