Guide slab
February 2025 - Progress on the Guide Slab

Applying polythene and grease to the guide slab makes the moving the box structure easier when it is pushed into its final position.
The reinforcement bars (rebar) are manufactured off-site and then hoisted by a crane onto the guide slab for the operatives to fix them together in place on-site.
The reinforcement bars (rebar) are affixed by hand. It acts like a skeleton within the structure. Once the concrete is poured it will give extra support for the box structure to stay strong and stable.

Preparation of the guide slab for the box slide. This guide slab is crucial because it provides a stable and level surface on which the box structure will be built and eventually moved.
Construction of the guide slab. The slab will play a critical role in ensuring the underpass can slide accurately into its final position. Construction of the underpass box will begin once the slab is in place.

Ecology
December 2024 - The licensed ecologist inspected the dormouse nest boxes, removed old nesting material, and ensured the boxes were ready for the next breeding season.
February 2025 - Repaired reptile fencing south of the M27 and installed new sections north of the M27. Vegetation clearance in selected areas of the embankment to prepare for slip road construction.
March 2025 - New dormouse boxes were installed to comply with ‘European Protected Species Dormouse’ licences.
