Work continues across the M27 Junction 10 project with activity progressing at the new roundabouts, along the A32 Wickham Road, and on the slip roads and underpass. Key construction elements are advancing, including kerbing, surfacing, and the installation of street lighting and signage.
Around 24,000 cubic metres of material were excavated over Christmas as part of the construction for the new M27 underpass. Rather than this material being taken away as waste it is going to be reused on Fareham Common. This helps cut down on lorry movements and waste, whilst enabling the material to be used again for Welborne’s re-profiling and landscaping plans - helping create open, accessible green spaces for people to enjoy well into the future.
A32 Wickham Road - the new traffic island near Boundary Oak School has now been constructed. Tactile (bumpy) paving on the island and on both sides of the footway, along with white lining and footway works alongside the southbound carriageway, are all due to be completed next month.
Broadway Roundabout - white lining and road markings on southbound lanes scheduled for completion next month.
High Street Roundabout - kerbing and surfacing (asphalt) works are currently being carried out.
Welborne Approach Roundabout - the centre of the roundabout has been covered with topsoil in preparation for planting and landscaping, and the carriageway has been surfaced.
M27 Junction 10 Roundabout - new kerbs are now in place, and road surfacing works are underway.
Underpass takes shape - kerbing is being installed on both sides of the underpass, and work on the central reserve is ongoing. Installation of traffic signals and associated technology systems to support the safe operation of the motorway are also in progress.
Eastbound off slip and westbound carriageway - acoustic fencing is now being installed on the eastbound off-slip to help reduce noise for nearby communities. On the westbound carriageway, crews are also installing environmental and safety fencing.

M27 Junction Underpass Construction Recognised with Industry Award
The delivery of the M27 Junction 10 underpass over the Christmas period has been recognised as ‘Construction Project of the Year’ at the Central South Business Awards. The award reflects the innovative engineering approach used to deliver the scheme, deploying a box-slide method that has only been used a handful of times in the UK.
By constructing the underpass off-site and installing it during a planned closure, the approach avoided prolonged lane restrictions and significantly reduced disruption for road users compared with traditional construction techniques.
