Progress continues on the large concrete box structure which will form the new underpass. As construction reaches the final stages, the sides are being waterproofed, and scaffolding is being dismantled. Further testing will take place in preparation for the planned slide of the box beneath the motorway over the Christmas and New Year period.
Once installed, the structure will form a new four-lane underpass, designed to improve traffic flow and make journeys to and from the area quicker and easier.
Construction Update: Broadway Roundabout Prepares for New Northbound A32 Wickham Road Route
Construction works are currently underway on the Broadway Roundabout to support a new northbound and temporary southbound single-lane route on the A32 towards Wickham, which is planned to open next month. The exact opening date will be confirmed in early October and shared in the next update.
As part of these works, groundworks and resurfacing are taking place on the southbound lane of the roundabout. This includes:
- drainage improvements
- ducting – the installation of protective tubes or channels underground that carry electricity cables, internet lines, or water pipes.
- utility works
To maintain traffic flow during these works, all traffic will be temporarily diverted to travel along the northbound lane of the Broadway roundabout, located on the western side of the A32. Coned narrow lanes will guide vehicles safely through the diversion, and clear signage will be in place to direct motorists through the updated layout. These traffic management measures will remain in place until February 2026. Once the works are complete, southbound traffic will be directed to use the newly resurfaced southbound lane on the Broadway Roundabout.
