Death grant expression of wish
A death grant may be payable if you die. Your pension administrator has absolute discretion as to its distribution. You can complete, update and view your expression of wish on the Member Portal.
If you need the form in an alternative format, please see our resources page.
Divorce or civil partnership dissolution
Your ex-spouse or ex-civil partner will not be entitled to a pension in the event of your death. However, children's pensions are not affected by divorce.
If you are in the process of divorcing/dissolving a civil partnership, you should check if you have made an expression of wish regarding the death grant. This will remain in place unless you update it.
Your pension administrator has absolute discretion regarding the distribution of the death grant.
Nominated cohabiting partner
If you live with your partner but you are not married or in a civil partnership, your partner may receive a pension if you die. Your partnership must meet certain conditions at the time of your death for your partner to receive a pension.
You can make your circumstances known to us by nominating your partner, using the Nominated Cohabiting Partner form which can be found on our resources page.
Your partner will not qualify for a pension if you stopped paying into the LGPS before April 2008. The notes on the form provide more details.
